Moldtek offers exclusive expertise in connection engineering realm of the steel construction industry. Moldtek has been for over two decades and still is the detailing firm of choice for scores of steel fabricators in the US for their unparalleled quality in producing steel fabrication and detailing drawings. The detailing team whether they use SDS2 or TEKLA software to produce steel shop drawings and erection drawings rely on the in-house professional engineer led connection engineering team for seamless integration of complicated connection designs into their models. Moldtek has detailed over a hundred thousand tons of steel a year with majority of the projects needing in-house connection engineering designs. This led the design team to become adept in not only knowing the nitty-gritty of the AISC codes, but also to have the ability to discuss the potential conflicts or erectability issues proactively with the engineer of record to sort them out. This ability of the connection engineering team has helped prevent potential delays or costly field issues in favour of the fabricator.

Moldtek provides a comprehensive range of steel connection design services:

  • Detailed hand or computerized calculations checking each limit state for each connection

Moldtek has traditionally always used hand calculations, which are typed up in MathCAD format. However, depending on the project needs we do have expertise in using RAM connections, RISA connections, IDEA Statica and other software tools as needed.
