Schedule
- Completed App on time in just 15 weeks
- Total 20 sequences
Challenges
- Project involved complex modeling & Drawings
- This was medium complex project. Few contract drawings were not clear, hence we have raised 64 RFI’s till date on this project.
- In this project steel is receiving several type paint codes. Most of the steel members having multiple codes
Solutions
- Main Challenging part is co- ordination with different treads. There are several treads for which we are coordinating. Such as Core Brace, Deck, Fireproofing, signage framing (sign board), field dimensions, etc.
- We have assigned separate team to deal with several different tread detailers. They handled them greatly. So that we could sent drawings for approval with bulk quantities in one shot & with minimal cloud on drawings for verification.

- All main gridlines are circular & radial.
- AESS Built-up columns with special finish & architectural shape.
- Elliptical opening at Skylight area.
- Rolled EOS at periphery & internal openings.
Solutions
- We have split the model in two part in order to speed up work & achieve the schedule.
- Increased team size from 15 to 20 to manage Approval & Fab releases simultaneously
- The stair tower were detailed by another detailer & the connection material for stairs were provided by us as shop welded to beam. We used reference model option to match stair detailer model to ensure proper fit-up on field.

- Detailing of curved member & attachment drawings
Solutions
- Need to study job thoroughly
- Assigned double the number of checkers to coordinate with arch. & structural.
- Daily Skype & phone conversations with connection design engineer
- One drawing checked & followed the same as sample for all other drawings
Scope of Project
- High rise building that weighs approximately 12000 tons
- Includes many built-up members (columns, braces, beams, Trusses & Plate girders)
- Elements –Embeds, columns, beams, braces, trusses & canopies.
Inputs
- Architectural, Structural, MEP & a huge number of structural & arch. sketches (SKS) which need to be coordinated with original contract drawings, compare and fix framing to be detailed.

Challenges
- Highly complex members (WP & DWP columns)
- Availability of revised drawings only in form of sketches (counts 700+ sketches that reflects changes to structure)
- Mixed design loads were followed in job (ASD + LRFD) that created confusions for some locations.
- Huge variety of bolts used. Connection design required a large verity of bolts to be used in job. These were 3/4 A325N, 7/8" A490N, 7/8" A490SC,1" A490N, 1" A490X, 1" A490SC, 1" A490X, 1 1/8" A490N, 1 1/8" A490X, 1 1/8" A490SC etc. That made it complicated to indicate bolt type on Erection drawings.
- Truss Connections
- Box beams
- Special grade materials that requires special attention as AISC has some special requirements for those members
- Extra heavy materials. Some of the base plates were close to 14" thick & some anchor rods were even 24'-0" long.
- Partial submittals. Because of non-availability of information, it was required to weekly submit all the clear members from each level. That resulted in submitting same erection sheets again & again. Some of the sheets were submitted more than 45 times, hence received more than 45 BFA packages for those levels. That increased the complexity of the job as it required to refer 45 BFA packages & 700+ structural sketches while releasing every single sheet for fabrication.
Solutions
- Established SOP to track all the revised contract documents, connection design & RFIs to smoothen the submittal process.
- Used modified SDS plugins to have better track of CDR, RFI or sketches.
- Identified potential shop problems and erection problems in advance & fixed at early stages to help fabrication process & erection.
Scope of Project
- 15 Floors Tower core & of 6 floors OPC Area Hospital Building structures | 3,000 tons
- Columns, Beams, Braces, Balcony Framing and Stair Towers.
Schedule
- Assigned to team of 8-10 members. Among which was split in to two sub teams and executed approval and fabrication of subsequent sequences of Structural Steel.
- Duration was 7-8 Months for Structural Steel drawings.
Challenges
- Complex Connections
- RFI & Connection Coordination
- Following all high level standards of Schuff fabricator
Solutions
- Auto connections were used to speed up the modeling stage.
- Daily mail & telephonic communication with client to follow-up on RFI & DRFI and getting the responses in time and also get quick responses.
- Several training sessions were done to educate the team to make sure everyone is aware of the schuff standards.
Scope of Project
- 4 Floors Development of a New Library & Classroom Facility structure | 1,798 tons

- Distinct Connection Design
- Large number of members for tonnage of project
- RFI & Connection Coordination
Solutions
- Continuos training sessions are conducted to adhere client standards and added 2 in-house designers to support detailing team.
- Assigned double the number of checkers to coordinate closely with detailers for speed & accuracy.
- Daily online & phone conversations with client to address questions and issues more efficiently.
Scope of Project
- Below grade and 8 - floor building that weighs approximately 7100 tons
- The above grade steel was to be built over the below grade Structure and the Existing Steel and involved the lot of co-ordination
- This is a fast track project. The requirement was that the Approval drawings for the entire project were to be submitted in 4 months.
Inputs
- Architectural, Structural, MEP & a huge number of structural & arch. sketches (SKS) which need to be coordinated with original contract drawings, compare and fix framing to be detailed.
- Existing structure drawings, Gartner drawings for façade co-ordination & MBJ connection design drawings.
Challenges
- The job is fast track. While trying to keep the delivery on time and feed the two Cives divisions fabrication shops.
- Much re-works due to many revised Gartner drawings for fixing the Facade steel
- We need to re-submit the drawings for R&R with respective submittal itself, should not mix-up with any other R&R and approval drawings.
- RFI, existing co- ordination & Pending information.
- Connection Coordination with New designer with new standards
- Big challenges is to execute the project all 3 teams working on software (3D Model) simultaneously as the software was not supporting.
Solutions
- We planned in a very good way to complete this gargantuan task of feeding 2 shop divisions of Cives with 3 separate Teams are assigned to handle the project from initial stage and strengthen the team as and when required
- Released the drawings for fabrication without Gartner updates per client request and fixed it later stage
- We have engaged a separate small team to take care.
- Continues follow up and calls with client and weekly progress reports and log files related to clarifications, RFIs, CDRs were submitted to the client regularly so that the client was able to answer the pending queries without any delays to keep the Job on track.
- We conducted regular training program to speed up the process
- Persuaded client to split the 3D model into three separate models with respective to the Cranes and executed.
